Lanka: Wetterhoffin Silvia, 189g (Tänä vuonna olisi ehdottomasti kannattanut laskea neulottuja (kilo)metrejä grammojen sijaan....)

Pattern: The Cap Shawl from the book Victorian Lace Today (otherwise according to the pattern, but the yarn is different, the needles are different and on the border I slipped the first stitch purlwise though it wasn't mentioned in the book).
Needles: 4mm (bamboo dpns, bamboo circular 40 and 80 cm and Addi golden circular 100 cm)
Yarn:
Wetterhoff Silvia, 189g (This year I definitely should have counted the (kilo)metres knitted instead of grams....)
Diameter: 2 meters when blocking! (Not an inch bigger would have fit onto the living room floor.... If I ever make the mistake of get interested in knitting a bigger one, that one will have to be blocked in the garden!

This scarf won't stay with me, but will travel to Juuli. The beginning was hard as it often seems to be for me and secondly I had never knitted yarn this thin before (single strand).... But somehow Silvia is very pleasant to knit, doesn't sweat in my palms, glides just perfectly on the needles. The colour isn't (luckily) my favourite - I think it was Pirkko in the knitting meeting in Jkylä in May who asked me how I'll be able to give this away. Because of the colour it's easy - or so it felt then :) Now that I've seen the blocked end result, giving it away doesn't seem so straight forward any longer....  At the beginning this didn't seem like anything (maybe a giant beret) and it was too easy to knit - even boring. B-chart proved to be more of a challenge as every row was different. Some rows required really intent staring at the chart, some were fortunately much more "lighter". But it was certainly interesting.

I finished the round "bodypart" at the change of the month (May-June) and then I forgot this for a month. I had to knit another lace scarf, Mystery Shawl 3, which was also lovely! The border - well, it didn't arouse any enthousiasm in me, I was afraid of it: How would get the tension right, what to do about the edge stitch (the pattern didn't say anything about it), what about the attaching to the body (the yarn is kind of stretchy)..... But I started on Sunday. In the end, the third time was lucky. The first beginning just didn't want to stay on the needles, the second stretched weirdly the attaching stitches.

Sitten kaksi asiaa tapahtui. Miss Marple osoittautui erityisen tehokkaaksi neulomistaustaksi.

Then two things happenes. First I got a comment from Villasatu, who's also knitting this very same scarf:" I counted that there'll be 1473 rows in the border...." That's just the kind of provocation which does good to my work morale :) So I continued counting and realized, on Tuesday, that there'll be 49 pattern repeats in the border, and I timed myself. If I knit 2½ pattern repeats in half an hour, the rest of the scarf will take me four hours - only. Then a friend of mine rang and asked me to come to her place for the weekend. She lives in Turku and Juuli (the one who's getting this scarf) lives there too! So I could drop this off myself! That's it! Needles to hard work and let the tv play all the programs I recorded in June while I was in Belgium. Miss Marple proved to be the best knitting companion.

Kuten näette, kuvia on lauottu eteisessä (Ehei!

As you see,  I've taken pics in the hall (No, you're hallucinating, there are no woolly socks lying on the floor!), in the bed room (none were successful) and in the garden. Let's see if my friend in Turku could take some better ones.
